The Wemo line is known for being one of the best smart home accessories, but unfortunately it came a little late to the HomeKit party. When it finally arrived, HomeKit still needed a separate smart bridge, which was sold separately and did not accept all Wemo products. Since then, HomeKit has been added to the latest versions of light switches and sockets, however, there are still some of those older accessories around which can make things a little confusing. Don't worry, but we solved everything.

Use this little connector to turn any appliance into a smart home accessory. The Mini is HomeKit compatible right out of the box, without the need for a separate deck and is one of the most accessible jacks around. But the best part is that it is so compact that you can fit two of them into the same outlet, which is rare for smart chairs.

Even though the Wemo Mini offers built-in HomeKit support, it lacks the power monitoring capabilities that the older Wemo Insight has. This plug, when combined with the Wemo Bridge, gives you access to real-time power consumption, which can help you identify the devices that consume the most energy. This can lead to potential money savings, especially if you can stop that corn energy from a distance if you forget to exit the door.

The Apple Home app has been a nuisance to many today because it sent notifications for HomeKit accessory updates that are simply not available. In a series of posts on the HomeKit subreddit today, it appears that most notifications are for owners of Schlage Sense Door Locks, which may suggest that an upgrade is imminent, but others have said that accessories from other manufacturers, such as Yale, Vocolinc, Hunter, Fibaro and First Alert also showed the same.

In our experience, we have seen this problem appear with Kaiterra Laser Egg + CO2, which has presented updates available and started since the end of last year. In the case of Kaiterra, the company acknowledged the problem via Twitter, noting that working on a solution, but said it could take "a while". Other features with this issue include notifications that appear on some iOS devices, but not others, despite being logged into the same iCloud account.

The best online learning tools for kids: ABCmouse, reading IQ and more

Unfortunately, there is no known solution for users facing the problem, which means that update messages from the home application may be around for some time. If you get annoyed with the notification badge on the startup application icon, you can turn it off in the settings by following these steps:

  1. Launch Settings app.
  2. touch Notifications.
  3. touch The home.
  4. commutation badges at the off position.

You can also turn off notifications completely for the Home app, but messages surrounding updates will still be present in the Home status area and on each accessed icon. It's also important to note that disabling notifications for the Home app will affect everything related to HomeKit, such as camera notifications and motion events.

Wyze today released a special firmware update for its v2 cameras, which can convert the smart home trap into a webcam for Windows and MacOS. Seen by Dave Zatz On Twitter, the update, which can be found by accessing a dedicated Wyze support page, requires the v2 camera firmware flash using a MicroSD card.

When used as a webcam, Wyze Cam v2 supports built-in microphone, speaker and, of course, video, and works with popular applications such as Skype, Hangouts and Zoom. However, the company warns that the camera was not designed to be a webcam and the update is released only to help those who need a conference camera. Wyze has stated that it does not plan any bug fixes or enhancements for this feature, so it is certainly used at your own risk.

  • Wyze Cam v2 was not designed to be used as a webcam. This firmware is intended for people who need a webcam but can't buy one.
  • This solution should be used "as is". We do not plan for continuous improvements or bug fixes.
  • After the Wyze Cam is turned on in the webcam firmware, it will not be able to connect to the Wyze application unless you manually flash it back to the firmware in stock.
  • This may or may not be compatible with your computer operating system. We tested and confirmed that it works on Mac OS 10.13, Windows 7 and 10.
  • This solution has been tested and works with Zoom, GoToMeeting, Blue Jeans, Google Hangouts, Skype and Cisco.

Once converted, Wyze Cam v2 will no longer function as a security camera and will not work with the Wyze application. However, users can return to the original firmware using a similar method if they wish to return. Here is what the process involves:

  • Windows 10: Right-click the folder and select Extract All.
  • Mac OS: Drag and drop the folder from the root directory of your microSD card.
  • For both Mac and Windows, rename the file to demo.bin.
  • Disconnect the Wyze Cam from power and insert the microSD card.
  • Press and hold the Setup button, and then connect the USB cable. Continue to hold the setup button for 3-6 seconds until the light is solid blue, then release the button.
  • Wait 3-4 minutes. The room will restart, and the light state will change during this time.
  • Once completed, the status light will flash yellow and blue at the same time (not alternating).
  • Connect the USB cable A to A to the Wyze Cam (USB port, not the micro USB port) and the USB computer port.

Convenient conference

You can now turn your Wyze camera into a video
