When you need to reset your Nanoleaf Shapes light panels
While the Nanoleaf Shapes (see our review) and Elements light panels "should just work", there may be times when you she must reset to restore them to their former glory. If you've been experiencing regular connection issues or trouble integrating your light panels with ecosystems, such as Apple's HomeKit, a reset could be the solution. Similarly, if you recently changed your Wi-Fi router or credentials, your panels should also be reset. And if you link your Nanoleaf Panels to an account, you'll need to reset them before selling or giving them away. Other potential issues include the Nanoleaf app not being able to detect your panels during installation or the controller becoming unresponsive due to a hardware error. Whatever the problem, there are two reset options available, which we'll get into later.
What a Reset Can't Fix
Before we dive into the reset options, there are a few issues that a reset can't fix. First, a reset won't fix your panels pairing issues if they aren't on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or tablet. Second, a reset will not correct alignment issues with the Shapes connectors on your panels or the controller. If your panels connect to your Wi-Fi network as usual, but you run into an issue where some of them don't light up, a reset won't help. Similarly, a reset will not fix hardware problems such as a faulty light panel. Or, if your Shapes Controller suddenly stops working, you can check to see if it is part of the Voluntary Shapes Controller Replacement Program as you may be eligible for a free replacement.

As mentioned earlier, you have a couple of options when it comes to resetting your Nanoleaf Shapes or Elements Light Panels. Depending on your needs, you can choose to perform a soft or a hard reset. While both reset methods are similar in the way you perform them, only one preserves your scenes and schedules: a soft reset. This makes the soft reset perfect for times when you need to change things on your Wi-Fi network. On the other hand, a hard reset will erase everything and return your Nanoleaf panels to factory settings. One last thing to note is that both methods require you to remove your light panels from the Nanoleaf app, so you'll have to go through the pairing process again.

Performing a soft reset of your Nanoleaf Shapes or Elements light panels is quick and easy.
1. Connect your light panels to a power source.

2. Press and hold the power button and the + button on your controller at the same time.
3. While holding down the buttons, plug your lights back in.

You can now delete your panels from the Nanoleaf app.

2. Tap the More... button on the navigation bar.
3. Tap My devices.
4. Swipe left on your light panels.
