Aqara Camera Hub G3 launches in Germany

Cupertino, November 23, 2021

Following its European launch last month, Aqara's Camera Hub G3 is now available in Germany. For 129€ the most versatile Aqara Hub is now available on Amazon.

If you don't want to miss out on almost any of the benefits of Aqara's individual hubs, we recommend reaching for the Camera Hub G3. In addition to acting as a Zigbee 3.0 hub for other devices from the manufacturer, it's also a HomeKit Secure Video camera. It can even be panned and tilted 360° via the Aqara app.

If you'd rather not have a camera in your home until now, the G3 has another nice feature. The lens can be covered on the hardware side. Privacy Protection Mode Aqara calls this function.

At the same time, the device adds an alarm system to your HomeKit installation. You can set the status to Home, Away, Night or Off and thus react differently in automations. At night, for example, a motion detector in the living room can trigger the alarm system.

IR remote control, gesture recognition and more

Away from HomeKit, the camera can control devices with IR remotes and also has gesture recognition. Hand gestures are recognized as the peace sign, four fingers, five fingers, a gun, and the OK sign used by divers. These can be used as triggers for automations in the manufacturer's own app.

You can get the Aqara Camera Hub G3 on Amazon right now. Now, if you're wondering how the camera is represented in HomeKit, you can check the device overview via the SmartApple app or use HomeDevices. For a comparison of all of Aqara's hubs, check out this post.

In the future also available in other colors

In China, the Aqara Camera Hub G3 has also surfaced in more colors. You could almost think that Aqara has taken over the color selection of the HomePod mini.

In addition to white, the camera will also be available in yellow, red and blue in the future. Until the new colors also make it to Germany, if at all, however, should still take some time.
