Aqara's latest smart lock on Kickstarter boasts support for Matter platform and Home Key features

Cupertino, March 1, 2024

Aqara, a top manufacturer of smart home devices, decided to seek funding for a new smart lock through a major crowdfunding platform, and the response was overwhelming. The funding goal on Kickstarter was set at just $10,000, but the project has now raised over $250,000. That's an impressive $240,000 above the initial target, showing a high level of enthusiasm from users.

The Aqara U200 smart lock truly lives up to its name with its innovative features. It offers multiple ways to unlock your door, including voice assistant support and easy setup. In addition to using a physical key, you can unlock the smart lock with a passcode, NFC tag, voice assistant, remote access on your iPhone, or a temporary passcode. Aqara also provides its own app for users to share temporary passcodes with others.

The Aqara U200 can be easily installed on your door in just a few minutes, saving you the hassle of calling in a professional. With its IPX5 waterproof rating, the smart lock is protected against rain, works in extreme temperatures, and has a six-month battery life. It comes with a rechargeable lithium battery and can also be powered by four AAA batteries or plugged in for added flexibility.

Early adopters were able to purchase the lock for just $169 on Kickstarter, but all major tiers are now sold out. The final retail price will be $249.99. The Aqara U200 is the successor to the U100, offering a longer battery life and more durability against weather and water. Both models support Matter, a communication standard for smart devices that enables them to interact seamlessly with each other.

The Aqara U200 is expected to ship in April 2024, making it a great option for those looking to upgrade their current lock to a smarter solution. With Matter compatibility and support for Apple Home, this smart lock offers great potential for enhancing your smart home experience.
