Coming Soon: Tapo/TP-Link HomeKit Camera

Cupertino, September 6, 2023

Thanks to a discovery by smart home enthusiast Adam Miarka, it appears that TP-Link is planning to make its C125 Smart Camera compatible with HomeKit. The C125 Smart Camera, which is listed on TP-Link's website but not yet available for purchase, would be the first camera from TP-Link to offer HomeKit integration options. While the camera's listing only mentions compatibility with Amazon and Google, a downloadable guide from the FCC ID website confirms HomeKit integration.

The Tapo C125 Smart Camera offers various security features, including a physical privacy shutter that blocks the camera lens when it's not in use. It also has a Smart AI detection and notification system that can identify people, pets, and abnormal noises and send timely notifications when necessary. However, not all of these features may be available in HomeKit, similar to Eufy cameras that support HomeKit.

The camera comes with a magnetic base and flexible bracket for versatile placement and a dual-IR system with 940nm IR LEDs for night vision. Users can also customize sound alarms that play recorded audio when motion is detected.

It's worth noting that TP-Link's Tapo C225 smart camera is also listed without apparent HomeKit compatibility but mentions HomeKit/Apple Home in a separate FAQ page. With the availability of HomeKit-compatible cameras increasing, like the upcoming Aqara Camera E1 and alleged second-generation Eve Indoor Cam, standing out in the market may become more challenging. Special thanks to Adam Miarka for the tip.
