Create the ideal ambiance for any mood with the Yeelight Cube Smart Lamp Panel in HomeKit Weekly

Cupertino, December 22, 2023

Yeelight sells many products to brighten up your home with some really nice products. I recently had some fun with the new Yeelight Cube Smart Lamp Panel, which includes some basic Matter support so you can use HomeKit with it. HomeKit Weekly is a series focused on smart home accessories, automation tips and tricks, and everything related to Apple's smart home framework. Unpacking and Installing This particular flavor of Yeelights products is very easy to unpack and install. For this review I used Yeelight's main panel and the Spot Light Extension. When you take the main panel out of the box, you will find the power brick. In my situation, since I had the spotlight extension, I placed it on the brick and then the main panel on top. You'll want to download the Yeelight Smart Station app to start the pairing process. The app guides you through creating an account, onboarding the product, and starting basic operations. The whole process is generally quite painless. Once you add it to the Yeelight Station app, you need to put it in pairing mode in the device settings. From there, go to the Home app and add a new device. You want to search for a device and see the Yeelight bulb in your list of devices. The Yeelight app listed a pairing code, but it was never asked. Usage scenarios This product really fits on your desk as mood lighting, in the children's room for a nice atmosphere or on a gaming PC. While I haven't tested it, it also supports staying in sync with Razer Chroma and Overwolf games. I really liked some of the presets, though. You can make your own, but I found that the ready-made versions covered the majority of the light environments I would want to create. While it has HomeKit support, it will be for simple on/off and use automations where you can turn it off and on based on timing or other sensors. Unfortunately, HomeKit cannot interact with the Yeelight Station app scenes. Wrap up This type of product represents the good and the bad of the matter. HomeKit cannot interact with the detailed aspects of the lights as Matter does not support this. When you buy this product, you're buying it for what the Yeelight Station app can do – not just for the HomeKit functionality. The HomeKit functionality is a secondary part of this. You'll want to figure out how you want to use it with HomeKit and then control it daily via the Yeeelight app. The scenes are a lot of fun and it's a great way to spruce up your desk or gaming rig. Ideally, in the future you'll be able to manage some of the more detailed settings directly from the Home app. With a large palette of 16 million colors in the Yeelight Station app, the Yeelight Cube Panel can easily create the perfect atmosphere for any mood, event or occasion. It can be purchased from Amazon. FTC: We use monetized auto-affiliate links. More.
