Now that tvOS 17 is soon to be released, there will be updates and improvements to the Apple TV. Despite Apple discontinuing the Apple TV HD, tvOS 17 will be available for both the Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. The public release date for tvOS 17 is Monday, September 18. Here are the new features that will be included in tvOS 17:
- FaceTime: For the first time, FaceTime will be available on the Apple TV. This feature allows users to use their iPhone or iPad as a camera for the FaceTime call and view the person they are video chatting with on the Apple TV. It also includes features like Center Stage and Split View, which allows callers to create effects on the screen and watch shows or movies with loved ones during a SharePlay session.
- Apple Music Sing: This feature is perfect for party-goers and karaoke lovers. Users can connect their iPhones or iPads to their Apple TV and sing along to lyrics that appear on the screen in the Music app via Apple Music.
- New Control Center: The new Control Center provides access to features such as audio source, HomeKit, connection source, Do Not Disturb, and more.
- Easier Locating Siri Remote: In tvOS 17, users can use the Apple TV Remote in Control Center on their iPhone to locate their Siri Remote if it goes missing.
- Screensaver updates: Screensavers can now be customized with photos from the user library and new sky screensavers of Monument Valley and the redwoods of California's coast.
In addition to these updates, tvOS 17 includes other enhancements such as Enhanced Dialogue, Dolby Vision 8.1 support, Apple Fitness+ enhancements, third-party VPN support, and more.
