It's been a while since Eufy introduced a product with HomeKit compatibility. However, they've recently announced the E30 smart lock, which integrates with Matter, indicating good progress. Now, the company has unveiled a new outdoor camera and HomeBase, both compatible with HomeKit.
The eufyCam S30 Pro is an outdoor camera with impressive features, including 4K resolution recording (at 15fps), a built-in solar panel, motion and radar detection, and local storage on the HomeBase S380, which offers 16TB of storage. A standout feature is the ‘MaxColor Vision’ technology, which provides “day-like” image clarity in ultra-low light conditions. This is enhanced by two adaptive brightness spotlights (per camera) that adjust brightness for optimal video recordings. For better clarity, you can view the live feed and tap on a specific area for the spotlight to adapt.
It's important to note that while you can record and view 4K footage (with a 135º FoV), you're limited to 1080p in Apple Home, a long-standing restriction. There’s also 2-way audio, although it’s unclear if this feature is available within Apple Home, as previous HomeKit-compatible cameras lacked this capability.
The camera's integrated solar panel, featuring the company’s SolarPlus 2.0 technology, eliminates the need for a power cable. However, if you prefer, you can power the camera via a USB-C port on the rear. For locations where eaves might obscure the solar panel, a separate solar panel can be attached to the S30 Pro. The cameras connect to the HomeBase via a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel, separate from your network, and the base connects to your network via Ethernet. According to the company, just one hour of daylight can fully charge the camera’s 13,000mAh rechargeable battery, potentially offering up to 365 days of battery life.
The built-in dual detection system includes a PIR sensor and radar but doesn’t specify mmWave technology. The detection field covers 40ft and 120º and uses a filtering algorithm to reduce false triggers caused by rain, insects, or moving trees.
The cameras and HomeBase work together to offer recognition for people, faces, packages, vehicles, and pets using the BionicMind AI. The system can track specific people or objects across multiple cameras, highlighting the company's commitment to security and renewed support for Apple Home.
One issue that may affect consumer confidence is the previous problem where some customers' camera feeds appeared in other customers' accounts. This incident led many to switch to other brands. Whether Eufy can restore trust among new and returning customers remains to be seen.
The pricing for camera and HomeBase setups are as follows:
