Presented next to a sleek and shocking camera, accessible for wedge and tilt, last month, eufy Indoor Cam 2K has a similar feature set at an even lower price point. Entering for just $ 39.99, the Indoor Cam 2K lowers the cost of entry for connected cameras, while raising the bar for the high-definition image category.

I've been testing Indoor Cam 2K for the past few weeks and thought it was worth the cost of admission, and then some. Although it may not be as bright as its motorized sibling, the stationary camera still offers a fantastic mix of features, along with excellent image quality, all without the necessary subscription. The best part is that it will add support for the Apple HomeKit in the near future, which will make it even better when the time comes.

Bottom line: The 2K interior room offers a lot of premium features at an amazingly low price. 2K HD resolution, two-way audio, free A.I. the image analysis, the movement areas, the local storage option and the lack of the necessary subscription make it an incredible value.

eufy 2K Indoor Camera: features

The Eufy Indoor Cam 2K features a familiar interior camera design with a cube-shaped lens portion that rests on a thin support. Most of the camera's frame is made of white plastic, with a black sports front lens to help mix it all up. Below the lens is a small status indicator light that changes color depending on the status and movement events.

The camera stand allows easy adjustment horizontally and vertically, by physically rotating the lens portion. The lens area pivots on a piece of metal that attaches to the bracket and, despite the fact that it should, the two parts of the camera frame cannot be separated. Under the base of the stand are two slots that are used to mount the camera on a wall, but it is only suitable for indoor use.

On the left side of the camera body is a micro-SD card slot, which can be used as a local storage option. The camera supports cards up to 128 GB, but one is not included in the box. The camera supports cloud storage through eufy's subscription service, which starts at $ 2.99 per month for a single room and included in the purchase is a free 30-day trial. Along the back of the camera is a single button that is used to pair and reset the device, as well as a micro-USB port that is used for power.

The eufy camera is capable of capturing videos at 2K HD resolution with a field of view of 125 degrees. For night viewing, the camera uses a series of eight infrared LEDs that can produce images up to 32.8 meters away. The camera does not include a physical zoom option, but it does support 8x digital zoom which is activated by gestures when viewing a stream or recording.

Rounding the interiors is a small speaker and a built-in microphone that is used for two-way audio. The speaker can also be used as a deterrent, acting as a siren that can be set to alarm through movement events or manually through the eufy Security application. For connectivity, the camera uses 2.4 gHz Wi-Fi without an additional hub required.

Indoor Cam 2K works with the eufy Security application and, once connected, additional integrations with smart home platforms such as Alexa and Google Assistant are available. At this time, the Apple HomeKit is not supported, although it was marketed as such, leading to the launch of the camera (more on that later). Additional features in the eufy app include motion zones, network-attached storage settings for 24/7 continuous recording, and A.I. analysis and filtering for smart notifications. Outside of the app, a web portal is provided for desktop viewing, but requires the Adobe Adobe plug-in.

eufy 2K Indoor Camera: What I like

Despite the fact that it looks like a two-piece design, the eufy Indoor Cam 2K comes pre-assembled, creating a breeze. Simply place the camera in the desired location, connect it and follow a few steps in the eufy Security application and you are ready to go. There is no extra hub to worry about, which is nice, and the pairing can be done by scanning a QR code located at the bottom of the stand. In most cases, even by creating an account, you can be up and running within five to ten minutes.

The administration of the camera within the application is easy, most of the functions being presented directly in the live view. Advanced settings, such as setting motion zones, are just as easy in that they are a different torque and have simple traction and trigger controls. The actual extraction of live streams is fairly quick, and it will be presented in a second or two, but obviously this will vary depending on your network. The camera as a whole has been incredibly reliable, as it is always available every time I launch the eufy Security application since I started testing.

Indoor Cam 2K image quality exceeds its prices, with clear and detailed images, even at night.

Indoor Cam 2K image quality exceeds its prices, with clear and detailed images, even at night. The 125-degree field of view isn't as ultra-wide as some of its competitors, but I actually prefer its more careful look for indoor use. The audio was just as impressive, with the microphone and speaker combination making for a viable conversation, with voices that pass loud and clear and with a minimal amount of lag.

Of course, the low price of the room is really the star of the show. Simply high-quality visualization would have been enough to justify the price, but eufy also includes several features such as the aforementioned movement areas as well as A.I. image analysis, which are often billed as premium by other manufacturers. In addition, I love the way the camera doesn't require a subscription for storage, which is pretty refreshing in the age of subscriptions for almost anything.

eufy 2K Indoor Camera: What I do not like

Even if Indoor Cam 2K supports local storage, it does not include the microSD card in the box, which is understandable for the price. However, what is not understandable is that accessing records saved on the memory card still requires some form of connection to eufy servers, as evidenced by a recent one-day outage. Fortunately, live viewing still works, and motion events are still recorded on a memory card even during an interruption, only for some reason it requires a "handshake" to access them, which is confusing.

Speaking of confusion, the eufy Security application does not have a critical security function: two-factor authentication, at least for some parts of the world. Now, I was aware of this limitation when it comes to other cameras I tested from eufy, but I wasn't as preoccupied with thoughts as I was outside, and the other inner room was rotating inward to hide the view when is off. However, given that the more affordable Indoor Cam 2K is just a stationary camera for the interior of the house, 2FA is extremely necessary to provide a little peace of mind.

But the biggest seller is that as we saw with eufy's Indoor Cam Pan 2K, the cheapest camera does not support HomeKit, although it was marketed as such. Starting today, eufy is targeting the launch of HomeKit in mid-July, and the launch will also include support for Apple's HomeKit Secure Video feature, which uses iCloud for secure, private storage.

For a few weeks I have been testing a beta version of the camera firmware and I can confirm that it really works with HomeKit and includes all the goodies offered by HomeKit Secure Video. I'm pretty sure the company will come with support sooner or later, but as with everyone at HomeKit, you shouldn't buy anything based on a promise.

eufy 2K Indoor Camera: Bottom line

of 5

When it comes to the eufy Indoor Cam 2K recommendation, it's actually a bit harder than it looks, but not due to some hardware flaws. You see, even with its incredibly affordable price and great HD visuals both at night and at night, there is an even better option from eufy, which can be obtained for only $ 10 extra, which is Indoor Cam Pan 2K.

If you don't care about Indoor Cam Pan 2K's extra privacy, or its motorized panning and tracking capabilities, then you should definitely go for Indoor Cam 2K - you won't be disappointed. However, if you can change the extra cost and you don’t need to mount it on the wall, then go with Indoor Cam Pan 2K, because it’s crazy. In any case, eufy is fast becoming the goto option for smart cameras, let's just hope that 2FA and HomeKit will come sooner rather than later.
