Eve application for HomeKit adds HomePass integration for easy storage of HomeKit codes

Cupertino, April 30, 2020

Released earlier this week, an updated version (4.2.1) of the HomeKit application has added support for adding HomeKit configuration codes to HomePass. HomePass is a popular third-party app that specializes in keeping all HomeKit configuration codes in one location and keeps them in sync across all iOS devices.

In the latest update, the Eve app for HomeKit will present users with an "Add to HomePass" button during the pairing process of HomeKit accessories. When selecting the new option, users will see a prompt to open the HomePass application. Opening the app will instantly transfer over most of the details surrounding the HomePass accessory, including the device name, camera, and serial number.

Unfortunately, due to limitations with HomeKit, the Eve application for HomeKit cannot automatically transmit the HomeKit association code. Users must manually enter the code in the new accessory prompt, either by typing the numbers or by scanning the camera option. Although not perfect, this new integration makes code storage part of the accessory pairing process, which is just one less step to remember later.

The Eve HomeKit app, while designed for use with Eve Systems HomeKit accessories, works with all HomeKit devices. The app is a favorite of power users for its ability to create automations that are not yet available in the Apple Home app. The app and the latest update are available for free on the AppStore.

HomePass for HomeKit is available as a single download for $ 2.99 in the AppStore. The app is also available as part of the HomeKit Essentials package that contains 4 favorites, including HomeCam, and the Apple Watch company HomeRun.
