Eve Energy Receives Significant Matter Upgrade, with More Updates on the Horizon

Cupertino, October 4, 2024

Renowned for its innovative smart home solutions, Eve has made a significant leap forward by introducing its first-ever out-of-the-box Matter-enabled device, the Eve Energy smart plug. This exciting release marks the beginning of a new era for Eve, with plans to unveil additional devices equipped with Matter support in the forthcoming weeks.

The groundbreaking Eve Energy smart plug can now be purchased across North America, Europe, and the UK with integrated Matter support.

Eve is preparing to expand its Matter-enabled lineup with the release of the Eve Motion sensor and the Eve Door & Window contact sensor, set to launch on April 17. Coinciding with this launch, current owners of Eve devices will have the opportunity to upgrade their products to Matter compatibility for free, thanks to an over-the-air update available through Eve's iPhone and iPad apps. This update applies to existing models of Eve Energy, Motion, and Door & Window.

But what exactly is Matter, and why is it pivotal for the smart home industry?

Matter Comes to Eve

Matter represents a groundbreaking advancement in smart home automation and interoperability. It serves as a revolutionary connectivity standard designed to bridge the gap between formerly isolated smart home ecosystems such as Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and others.

Similar to how Bluetooth revolutionized wireless headphones, Matter standardizes the smart home landscape. Regardless of your location or preferred brands, if you're looking to enhance your smart home, Matter is the go-to solution.

With Matter, the possibilities for expanding your smart home are nearly limitless. This is particularly beneficial for those invested in the Apple HomeKit ecosystem, as they can now integrate a broader range of devices (provided they are Matter-enabled) that were previously inaccessible. Furthermore, these devices are now compatible with various hubs and base stations, such as Amazon Alexa, eliminating the previous necessity for a HomePod or Apple TV as an intermediary.

In addition to this, Eve is diligently developing an Android app, which promises to extend the reach of its superior HomeKit devices to Android users, allowing them to seamlessly integrate these devices into their smart home ecosystems.

Recent Matter rollouts also feature new lighting solutions from Nanoleaf, with numerous other companies committed to launching more Matter-enabled products in the future. Noteworthy brands like Philips are ensuring backward compatibility by updating existing devices through firmware enhancements, much like Eve's ongoing efforts for its loyal customer base.
