Exploring the New Thread Sensor, Using Find My Wallet, and Trying Out Eve Play

Cupertino, December 11, 2023

On this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, your hosts review the latest smart home news before getting started with the new Eve Play. This week, Faith O'Hara joins the podcast as co-host to discuss the latest news in the smart home space, starting with the launch of the Onvis SMS2. The Onvis SMS2 is the second generation motion sensor that looks identical to the previous one. What has changed is that the new model now works via Thread instead of Bluetooth. It also features humidity and temperature sensors in addition to motion and a new light sensor to perform various automations based on the brightness of the room. A new wallet with Find My functionality has also hit the market. The Journey LOC8 wallet connects to your iPhone via MagSafe, acting as a stand and holding up to three cards. It is most similar to the ESR Geo Wallet, but lacks the finger loop for grip. Currently the wallet is sold out, but should be available soon. Outside of hardware releases, we saw two new software upgrades. The Eve MotionBlinds have been updated to support Matter, and Amazon has finally updated its Alexa app on iOS. After the news we started working with the new Eve Play. With this small box you can wirelessly cast audio to your favorite bookshelf speakers via Apple AirPlay.
