2022 HomeKit Beginner Questions

Cupertino, January 7, 2022

Long-awaited poster for the first time. For the past two months, I've been reading about HomeKit and other smart home devices / platforms / services. For the holidays, I bought 2 Home Pod Mini and Apple TV 4k. I just bought some Nanoleaf smart light bulbs and looked at the Eve Energy and Lutron Cassette switches. As a new owner, I wish I had been more patient and not gone crazy with certain purchases (e.g. Nest thermostat, Ring security system). Anyway, at least I didn't go down without explaining myself first. * If you could create your own smart home from scratch, what would you change based on what you know? * What was the biggest mistake you made in setting up your HomeKit? * Is it worth getting Raspberry Pi (i.e. HomeBridge) or should I just wait for Matter? Or can I just give up what I have and get some Logitech cameras? * Is there anything I should expect in Q1 2022 (e.g. Home Keys and Schlage?) * What is the optimal HomeKit hub? I currently have it on my iPad by default, but does it make more sense to transfer it to the mini bridge or Apple TV? Thanks for all your help!
