Abode launches a $ 35 security camera

Abode is building some of our favorite DIY home security systems – Abode Smart Security Kit and Abode Iota – and now the company is launching a new home security camera at budget prices, which can be implemented independently or with any of these gateways. . Set to be priced at $ 34.99 when it ships in April, the compact Abode Cam 2 can be pre-ordered this week for just $ 29.99.

The compact, cube-shaped camera measures just 1.97 x 1.97 x 1.97 inches and comes mounted on an articulated base. With an IP65 rating, the Abode Cam 2 can be installed indoors or outdoors because it is completely protected from dust and can withstand spraying a hose with an attached nozzle.

Abode says its compact camera records videos at 1080p resolution and is equipped with a Starlight sensor that provides color night vision.

A Starlight sensor on board the Abode Cam 2 home security camera allows color viewing at night.

Once connected to your home Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz only), the camera will send you alerts whenever motion or a person is detected, but you’ll only be able to watch live video – on a mobile device or a Smart Display powered by Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant – unless you subscribe to one of Abode’s service plans. In this case, the camera will record in the cloud 24/7 (you can disable this feature if, for example, your ISP imposes a draconian data limit).

The company plans to add pet and package detection features to the room later this year. People detection events – and later, pet and package detection events – will be indicated on a timeline to make them easier to find. Two-way audio support allows you to have a conversation with the person in front of the camera.

When deployed with any of the Abode gateways, the camera can be connected to Abode’s CUE automation system. This will allow users to incorporate it into smart home and security “scenes” involving smart lights, smart locks and other connected devices. While both of Abode’s existing gateways are compatible with the Apple HomeKit, the Abode Cam 2 won’t be – at least not at launch.
