Advice Re: August door locks for HomeKit

Cupertino, October 4, 2021

This is for my 94 year old mother so that I can grant access to her health workers to her house on days when she is not really able to get up to unlock the front door. I looked at the August line of locks because her front for is locked by a single Kwickset deadbolt with a key on the exterior and a twist lock on the interior. I like keeping the same key for her three doors (garage, sunroom, front porch). And She is not going to want a lock that cannot be operated manually from the inside.

The best solution would include the ability for me to unlock and lock the door over the internet through the Home app. She has a Velop (two node) HomeKit managed WiFi and an AppleTV 4K (new generation) hub.

Is the August line of locks a good one to select for her situation? If so what version would be good? The Apple store sells the 4th generation which has no bluetooth dongle. But reviews (from folks not using HomeKit) talk of problems when 5Ghz WiFi is available.

Any advice for better solutions are welcome.
