Airplay 2 automation

Cupertino, February 13, 2020

I have a simple HomeKit automation, which at one time plays a playlist on an airplay 2 speaker (an Airport Express). My problem is (ignoring all the general stability issues) that the Apple TV which is the hub keeps the airplay speaker as the audio output target after the automation is complete. So when I get home at night and turn on the TV, it sends the audio to a different room. Is this a known / reported bug or "expected" behavior? It seems that after this automation, which selects the audio output device, it should revert to the previous settings (or have a way to force it back). Anything missing here? Does anyone know if their behavior is different on a HomePod?
