Amazon's first internal TVs can be showcases for Alexa, but that doesn't stop the company from supporting someone else's ecosystem. Conformable The Verge, Amazon has unveiled plans to add support for Apple's AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to both Omni and high-end Omni Fire TVs now available. You can use AirPlay 2 to project content from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, but HomeKit integration may be the most notable - yes, you can use Siri to control an Amazon TV as part of your larger home smart grid. Amazon would only say that the support will come "soon".

The TVs themselves start at $ 370 for the 4 Series, which offers the usual Fire TV integrations along with 4K and HDR support in sizes ranging from 43 inches to 55 inches. Meanwhile, Omni sets offer Alexa-compatible remote field microphones and (on the two largest models) Dolby Vision HDR. They start at $ 410 and range from 43 to 75 inches.

Expansion is not a complete shock. Fire TV Edition sets produced by Insignia and Toshiba received AirPlay and HomeKit support in July. I would add that Apple and Amazon are relatively comfortable. Amazon Echo speakers have been streaming Apple Music since 2018, for example, while Prime Video integrates with the Apple TV app. Amazon has a strong incentive to include AirPlay and HomeKit, if only to avoid competition from Android TV and TVs that rely on Google Assistant.

As The Verge noted, however, no mention is made of any Apple platform that will come with additional media players such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. For now, you'll need to buy hardware like Apple TV or modern Roku devices to bring AirPlay and HomeKit to TVs where they're not built-in.
