In this week's AppleInsider podcast, your hosts discuss WWDC from June 7 to June 11, Apple's 45th anniversary, and our wish lists for features for the next versions of Apple operating systems.
On April 1, Apple celebrated 45 years since it was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in 1976. In an email, CEO Tim Cook took an optimistic tone by telling staff: I can say with certainty the certainty is that there has never been a moment with such great potential and I have never had such a talented and dedicated team. "
In addition to reviewing its past, Apple has looked to the future with confirmation that it will own an exclusive WWDC online this year from June 7-11. We are discussing the possibility of returning to a normal WWDC in person in 2022 and also the possibility of seeing an AR or VR headset ad this year. While an announcement about the product seems unlikely, Apple could introduce new ARKit tools for the future device.
Certainly there will be updates soon, and the latest beta version of iOS 14.5 has revealed two new Siri voices plus the option to choose one when setting up.
We discuss our hopes for new features in iOS 15, iPadOS, watchOS and macOS. Given the success of shortcuts on iOS, we hope that Apple brings this automation tool to the Mac and adds more flexibility to the iPad. Widgets could be more useful given the interactive features, and iCloud Drive sync could be drastically improved.
Also, a new Bloomberg report claims that Apple is considering a "robust" Apple Watch model, intended for athletes and extreme users.
