Apple changes the wording of its "subscription" function in the Podcasts application with iOS 14.5, changing it instead of "follow".
First seen by Podnews, Apple Podcasts will no longer use the word "subscribe", research shows that 47% of people who do not currently listen to podcasts believe that "subscribing" to a podcast will cost money.
Although Apple has not explained why the wording of the feature changes, it seems to encourage podcast lists to follow creators without fear of being charged.
The wording could also be related to rumors that Apple is planning a new monthly Podcast subscription service to compete with Amazon and Spotify, offering creators ways to generate money from their content on the Apple Podcasts platform.
