apple icloud file sharing delay: Apple quietly delays this iCloud feature until next year - Latest News

Cupertino, October 9, 2019
Apple introduced this year a new feature for users of iCloud Drive, supposed to allow them to grant access to folders and documents. The file sharing feature has been in the beta phase for some time now and is expected shortly after the update of macOS Catalina. Although the operating system update is now available, Apple has pushed back the release date of the iCloud Drive file-sharing feature until next spring.

Apple has also updated the All Features page for MacOS. Until last week, the webpage mentioned that the iCloud Drive file sharing feature would arrive before the end of the year, but the page has now been updated with a revised timeline for the launch of functionality. It was also mentioned that the "Limits of communication" function for Screen Time was also postponed early next year.

It should be added that the page iOS 13 All features has not yet been updated and still displays the timeline "Coming this fall". We expect this page to also be updated soon.

The shared folder feature would have allowed users to share an entire folder with files included with others, allowing them to view all content. They would also be able to make changes in the file. Apple's ICloud allows users to share individual files with others, but not folders. This feature would have placed iCloud Drive directly against Dropbox, which has been using this folder sharing feature for some time.

Some other features are not yet available to end users. The list includes announcement messages with Siri, Homekit Secure Video, AirPlay 2 speakers, Homekit compatible routers, and more. We expect that most of them will arrive with iOS 13.2, which is currently in the beta.
