Apple held its annual special event Tuesday in Cupertino. The event centered on three new iPhone, a Seventh-generation iPad and Apple Watch Series 5. Anyone hoping to hear from HomeKit would go home empty-handed.
Apple's HomeKit platform has not progressed as quickly as its Google and Alexa their counterparts, largely because of the closed nature of Apple's third-party integration requirements and the lack of focus on the HomePod in general.
Even now that the MFi chip is no longer needed, the hopes of HomeKit must still go through the MFi certification program to request integration with Siri. Yet, there is a growing number of devices that work with HomeKit

Earlier this year, Apple announced Updates from HomeKit to WWDC, including HomeKit Secure Video and HomeKit compatible routers. These updates were important and it seems that these are the only ones that Apple will see this year surrounding the smart home.
