Apple saw 16% increase in sales in China during mid-year shopping festival

Cupertino, July 1, 2021

The iPhone was the fourth most popular smartphone choice in China during a shopping festival and sales rose 16%.

China has been a difficult market for Apple with the iPhone 12. Reports have shown that while it is popular, it is not setting sales records like the iPhone X or other devices before it.

According to Counterpoint research, sales of smartphones in China have returned year-on-year during the mid-year shopping festival. The smartphone market grew by 7% and saw Huawei and Honor fall from the first two market shares to the fifth and sixth.

Apple is now in fourth place in sales when it examines the first three weeks of June. During this period, Apple held 14% compared to Vivo with 23%, Oppo with 21% and Xiaomi with a market share of 20%.

Despite the full churn of the top smartphone brands, Apple has grown by only a percentage of its market share only when examined annually - from 13% in 2020 to 14% in 2021. Research says that iPhone 12 at Apple was reduced during the shopping festival, leading to a 16% annual increase in sales during that period.

The increase in annual sales of the iPhone is probably maintained by the continuous demand for 5G smartphones. The Apple iPhone 12 line is Apple's first 5G product.
