Aqara Doorbell in Home - Perform an action when you press the doorbell

Cupertino, April 2, 2024

I just received an Aqara G4 doorbell. I use Home Assistant to control my home. I tried connecting the doorbell directly to Homekit and then tried with Home Assistant. Unfortunately, you can't have both at the same time. If the doorbell is connected to Home Assistant, it creates an event entity that allows me to trigger actions in my home when the doorbell is pressed. To turn on the lights, wake up, or change the security system when I get to the front door. Different actions depending on whether I'm home, away or asleep. But camera.record is not supported, so I can only save snapshots, no recordings. It also doesn't allow any of the detection settings or using the microphone to talk through the ringer. Definite disadvantages. On the other hand, when the doorbell is connected to Homekit and the Aqara app, there are more setting options, a microphone, and most importantly, it can record. But, there doesn't seem to be a way to control other devices if the doorbell rings. Although you can if motion is detected. Ideally, I would trigger a boolean toggle when the doorbell is pressed, causing Home Assistant to run my scripts. am i wrong Can I create an automation in Homekit that activates a switch if the doorbell is pressed instead of if motion is detected? It doesn't seem to have any way to recognize the ringtone other than automatically sending a notification.
