Leaving this here, because I've been looking for this information for a week and I just received the official word in August. Hoping this will help someone who is in an experience similar to mine!

IF your Apple TV or other hub is too far from August Smart Lock, you'll not be able to connect to your device via Wi-Fi from homeKit, even if you're able to do so directly from the August app.

My hope was that if I used August Connect between my blockchain and my hub, I could fix this. Today, support in August confirmed that this will not work. The connection hub communicates ONLY to the August application.

The next thing for me to explore is whether I can add an August plugin to the RaspberryPi running homebridge and connect this way (such as through the August web APIs and not a Bluetooth connection).
If anyone has other ideas, I'd love to hear them, but my hope is that this post saves you some time trying to solve this :-)
