We set up automation to play a custom audio clip at a certain time each day. I tried AirPlaying music to the speaker in question to see what would happen at that magical time of day. The music stops playing, there is (an annoying) pause for a few seconds (I guess it downloads the audio clip), then it plays the audio clip ... and then there is no sound. I would much prefer that any music that is played be played back after the custom audio clip. As a long shot, I tried to make a shortcut as an automation, which first does "Play Audio" and then "Resume Audio", but this didn't work either - I didn't expect it. Even if it worked, it doesn't look like automation can check the status of a speaker (whether it's currently playing or not). If this is a limitation, I feel that audio automation is not very useful unless you want to have dedicated speakers for automation that are separate from those for which you listen to AirPlay music. Any smart solution? Or can someone at least confirm that this is a limitation of HomeKit? I've tried most with speakers connected to an AirPort Express, only if they differ between HomePods and other AirPlay speakers. I've verified that getting the status of a speaker in an automation doesn't work with a HomePod either.
