Can I make my very primitive thermostat into a smart switch? And then use HomeKit to control that?

Cupertino, October 4, 2021

I have a 1940s house with a floor furnace (Cozy Challenger Floor Furnace). The thermostat has two wires. I think a thermostat is much like a switch. So can I take my very very primitive heater and put it on a switch like a lutron to control it?

And use homekit's "brains" to run my thermostat? (I already have a lutron hub - and am thinking of adding an aqara hub and temperature sensors to be the "sensor" of the heater. )

I am assuming this is low voltage though.... hmmm.Is this an idea that others have done?

Pictured - the wires I have to work with.
Edit: I believe it's a *millivolt* heater
Edit edit: maybe this is a solution? [https://thedataist.com/off-topic-how-to-automate-your-gas-fireplace/](https://thedataist.com/off-topic-how-to-automate-your-gas-fireplace/)
