Can't receive HomeKit request due to old iDevices?

Cupertino, September 7, 2019

So my roommate installed a lot of smart switches and Philips Hue bulbs in our house. He has pretty much the latest iPad and iPhone Apple released this year, and HomeKit works perfectly.

I currently have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 2, and I can't receive the invitation to check my home every time I try to send one from his iPad. Both devices have the latest iOS (which supports each device respectably) and have HomeKit installed.

Are my devices simply too old and don't have the software to receive the invitation, or is it a problem with my iCloud account that is not properly configured on my devices?
