Design and construction log

Cupertino, October 18, 2020

Hi all,

I've been reading and hiding for some time, but this is my first post.

We close our new custom home on November 4, researching and planning the features of our smart home for several months, with a first HomeKit mentality. This is our first real smart home and to say that I am delighted is a bit underrated.

If you see something I'm missing or something you found useful, please share it with us. I will try to give feedback about the solution as I go!

Dining room:
- Samsung QLED 60QT 85 ”with Tizen operating system
- Apple TV 4K (latest generation)
- WeMo Smart switches and dimmers for lights and fan
- Apple HomePod

Kitchen:
- WeMo dimmers for lights
- Moen 7594EVC kitchen faucet with voice and movement control (AC / DC adapter for battery removal)

Matrimonial bedroom:
- Samsung QLED Q60T 43 ”with Tizen operating system
- Apple TV 4K (latest generation)
- WeMo smart switches and dimmers for lights and fans
- Apple HomePod (maybe mini)

Office
- Samsung QLED Q60T 50 ”with Tizen operating system
- Apple TV 4K (latest generation)
- WeMo smart switches and dimmers for lights and fans
- Apple HomePod (maybe mini)

Outside:
- Yale Assure Lock SL, keyless for front and rear door
- WeMo Switch’s for all exterior lights
- Ring Video Doorbell Pro associated with Ring Chime Pro
- TBD security cameras
- TBD irrigation control (probably Rachio 3?)

Other:
- ecobee intelligent thermostat with intelligent sensor
- 2GIG alarm (alarm.com monitoring)
- Hoobs 3 Home Bridge
- Smart Garage Chamberlain 1.25HP myQ door openers

Still working on the best audio solution for our living room, I went back and forth between a sound bar and a wall-mounted surround system.

I'm looking forward to seeing if I can integrate the faucet with HomeKit, it natively supports Alexa - I'd rather not have Alexa in the house if I can avoid it.

In the future, I will also look for a HomeKit compatible controller for our Christmas lights and other outdoor decorations.

Anyone interested in learning more about why I selected these articles or my feedback once installed?

I would like any advice for the most experienced in this field. In general, my goal is to keep it simple and not go overboard. The previous systems that I installed in other houses using RTI and so on pass over the complex very quickly.
