Did Walmart just offer HomeKit a boost in the home automation space?

Cupertino, January 31, 2020

It's no secret that Walmart needs to be supplemented with Amazon and that home delivery should be part of this plan. They have just announced a deal with Level Lock as being exclusively for blocking home delivery.

The interesting part is that Level Lock is not compatible with Amazon or Google Home, but with HomeKit. Therefore, anyone who wants to have a safe home delivery will probably need to use HomeKit as well. They send a nice Google and middle finger to Google and Amazon, which I hope will be a sign of new life that will come into HomeKit (which is often promised, but we know how that goes).

Anyway, this small accomplishment made me a little more excited about HomeKit and what might come this year. It's not a straightforward deal for Walmart / Apple, but it's nice to see that startups can bring big companies to the HomeKit table to light a fire under Apple.
