Here is my short 2 week overview of the Vocolinc L3 Beta Adaptive Lighting (AL) feature for HomeKit. From the implementation of a smart home HomeKit. I had a few automations that go out, even though the day is gone, to change the color temperature of my lights. Coming from a cooler light in the morning, to a warm start around 19:00 and finally to the light of the full and warm candles at 23:00. While the current configuration works, it could certainly be better. Since the announcement of Adaptive Lighting in iOS 14, I have been extremely eager to use Adaptive Lighting to continuously change temperatures throughout the day. While in practice AL does what it says it does, but the color change curve is far too aggressive in my opinion. 20 minutes from the color curve starting to warm up. The lights come from a cool white light to a much warmer light than I would prefer at that time of day. Then with full heat 1 hour later. A few hours earlier than I would normally prefer. I wish we could set adaptive lighting to follow a curve of the time program instead of sunrise and sunset. It's similar to the night shift settings in IOS. While yes, it's "nice", but I don't get off work until 20:00. I like my lights, a bright white light, as I work to stay focused. Basically, I had to turn off the function until more control could be added. In AL's defense, this could just be a software issue with Vocolinc's beta firmware. Although I'm slightly inclined to think that it behaves close to the final launch, because it follows the position of the Sun quite well. I could see once a day the light economy changes with the sunset later in the day, the color temperature curve could work better for me. I added this at the end because I'm not sure if this is Apple's or Vocolinc's software bug. Another weird quark with AL enabled is when you ask Siri to set a scene that changes the colors of the lights (such as purple). The lights will change color, but in 15 seconds the lights with the AL function will automatically return to the AL color setting. This is quite annoying when you look at something in full color, then suddenly the color turns orange. To avoid this, I go to the Home app, then for each light I manually select a different color and finally set the desired scene. Has anyone had a better experience with Adaptive Lightning? The hue system also activates this feature, so maybe AL is better with hue lights.
