Do I need a bridge and if so is the Bosch Smart Home Controller II a good option?

Cupertino, February 10, 2024

I've been playing around with HomeKit so far - Apple TV, HomePod2, a thermostat, some Hue bluetooth bulbs and an Eve smart plug. I'm in the UK too, which seems to make a difference with the wiring standards. My thoughts so far are that the thermostat is good but needs individual radiator control to be really useful. I'm not fussed about lighting beyond on-off control - which the smart plug actually does better than colored bulbs for lamps plugged into a wall socket. It doesn't help with the wall switches though - I'd really like to have the hall lights plugged in! From what I can see, a Bosch setup based on the Smart Home II controller looks like it would do what I need. I understand it would be better than continuing with Eve or other ad hoc devices as the bridge avoids overloading my existing wifi (Am I getting this right?) Does anyone have any experience with this setup they can share? Alternatively, should I consider something else?
