The only problem with this setup is that the phone must be left on.
The phone uses the battery even when it is on the lock screen, but keeping the charge level so low and fully charged will not degrade the battery significantly.
Personally, I would follow the tips above and turn off the phone completely at a 50% charge level and set an alarm reminder to check it every month or two.
