Do you have a HomeKit TV and the controls are seriously overwhelmed - will it be better? / Can I improve my setup somewhat?

Cupertino, December 15, 2019

I was terribly excited when they announced HomeKit for TVs I read a little about (feature list found) (https://www.idownloadblog.com/2019/01/11/homekit-for-tv-features/ ) with lots of possible controls, so it also helped me pull the trigger to get a LG TV from 2019.

To my great dismay, the remote control found at the iPhone Control Center couldn't be any worse if they tried. Boiled down to directional arrows and middle action button. Plus a play / pause, back button and info button. No volume control, no channel control, no input control or any other special button.

You can change the input from Homekit controls (but not from the virtual remote) and turn it on and off - and that's about it.

I mean, I really like being able to integrate TV on / off status into Homekit scenes, turning it on and off from Siri without the need for Siri shortcuts (I have a Harmony Hub), but other than that it's a regression from the setup I had with Sony's Android TV + Alexa that I could use to turn the TV on and off, change the volume with voice, change channel, even assign channel names, etc.

To make things worse, the LG ThinQ Alexa integration is region locked so I can't use it. But it is not overly important here as I would transition more and more to Homekit / Siri.

Will more checks come up? Will I at least be able to use Siri to change the TV's volume? I should probably start looking more at Siri shortcuts ...

I just hope they don't store better HomeKit features for 2020 sets.
