Do you have a HomePod? Then start working with SSH-Automations!

Cupertino, February 13, 2020

It's my first day on Reddit and I want to share some thoughts about a totally underrated feature:

Because SSH is supported in the Home application itself for automation, the possibilities have grown endlessly: a lot of Homekit shortcomings can be easily worked around bc, HomePod runs the commands by itself, whether you are local or not ... By giving a few examples Configuration with an old iMac:

Use it for communication:
- Send me the message via iMessage, as you leave when the windows are open and the rain is expected (earlier 3 different Homebridge plugins were required, now they are fully supported within the Home system)
- Power management for starting the computer and changing the TVs + synchronized with other background automation
- Automatically connect to Websockets, third-party platforms and other independent systems usually at home
- Manipulation of information and actions such as local reboots, volume mounting or just a response when TimeMachine succeeded

Use it to trigger homeless device actions:
- Access and control Fritzbox, listen to local events, and report to me through Homekit, managing environmental measurements and reactions
- Keep active for Homebridge or other devices monitored on your local network, control with other devices turned on
- Build a security camera through FaceTime / Skype that responds to the Eve motion sensor

For me personally, this feature has become a solid companion and has helped me reduce the plug-in chaos - while I have a local responder ready 24/7

What other possible use cases do you think about or have you discovered? What new solutions have you thought of?
