Does Eero 6 support HomeKit?

HomeKit support reached older routers on the Eero line earlier in 2021, but the latest Eeros 6 Wi-Fi was not included. This changed with a firmware update in May 2021, which included the Eero 6 and Eero 6 Pro. The entire Eero range now supports Apple's HomeKit security features. This is a great thing because the Eero 6 is easily one of the best Wi-Fi 6 mesh routers you can get.

You'll need to use the Eero app on an Apple device to activate HomeKit.

HomeKit routers are not the same as HomeKit hubs, and you'll still need an Apple TV, iPad, or HomePod to act as your HomePod hub. HomeKit routers offer security enhancements tailored specifically to the needs of HomeKit accessories. This allows users to decide what kind of permissions to grant these accessories.

With Eero, you can restrict which devices and websites your HomeKit accessories can connect to. You can choose a vending machine that allows your device to connect to other devices in your network and to sites approved by the manufacturer. You can also restrict devices from connecting only to Apple devices on your network. Finally, if you wish, you can completely disable this security feature.

Of course, you'll need to upgrade your Apple and Eeros devices to the latest firmware to use this feature. In general, it would be useful if you kept the Eeros as up-to-date as possible. Fortunately, Eero will automatically update its software, so you should be fine if you don't set up for the first time. First-time users will need to update during the setup process. Even if you have added Eero 6 extensions, they will also update automatically.
