Does the Eufycam 2C just smell or am I missing something?

Cupertino, April 27, 2024

I wanted a battery powered outdoor camera for my front door, so I got the Eufycam 2C with Homebase 2 kit. Try as I might, I absolutely cannot get this to reliably detect and record motion.

To preempt a few topics: this is not a problem with live video streaming as we have seen in other posts. I didn't have a problem with that. This also doesn't appear to be an inherent HomeKit issue, as I've tested this camera alongside the Logitech Circle View and the LCV consistently picks up motion.

What I'm trying to do is set up the Eufy in the Home app so that it records if it detects motion. I set both "detect a person" (my favorite setting) and "any movement" (just to see if it works). When I test by simply walking into camera view, it will record me the first few times, but never after that. The red light on the camera does come on, indicating it's detecting motion, but I'm not getting a HomeKit registration. I took my dog for a walk, standing in full view of the camera on the porch for over 10 seconds with it set to record "any movement"and I got nothing.

I tried toggling every setting I could think of in the Eufy app: motion sensitivity, recording time, recording interval. I turned the Home settings on and off. I rebooted my HomeKit Hub (an Apple TV) and completely reset and configured the Eufy devices. Nothing makes it constantly record motion in HomeKit.

Any idea? Did I miss any settings? I see a lot of posts here with people saying the camera works perfectly for them, so I'm at a loss as to why this thing can't consistently record motion for me.
