Ever since upgrading my two Eve Motion sensors to version 2.1.3 of the firmware, it has become unreliable. They seemed to work okay at first, but then they started to become flaky. I can download the historical sensor data from the Home app, but it no longer seemed to respond in real-time. Automations that involve detecting motion from these devices stopped working and the sensor data (motion and brightness) on the Home app didn’t seem to update properly.

I rebooted the Apple TV that I am using as the Home Hub and the Wi-Fi router to see if that helped. It did, for a day. Then things went back to being bad again. I fiddled with the automation settings to no avail. After a few days I got fed up and I decided to try that new HomeKit architecture upgrade thingy.

I have about 40 HK devices on the network but the upgrade took only about a minute. When everything came back online the automations started working again. Even a couple of automations that stopped working a long time ago (and unrelated to the above problem) started to function again as well. I’ve been keeping an eye on the network for the last few days to see if things went bad, but it had been fairly solid so far.

I‘m quite aware that the new HK architecture had been all over the map as to the resulting reliability, but it seems I might be one of the luckier ones.
