Eve MotionBlind motors are smart HomeKit blinds

Cupertino, October 7, 2021

Of all the modern smart home accessories, blinds are the least accessible and often some of the most complicated to install. In an effort to change that, Eve Systems joined the Coulisse window cover specialist to announce MotionBlinds engines, a new type of smart blind engine that combines Eve MotionBlinds and Apple HomeKit.

The new smart blind motors will support Thread, the new smart home connectivity standard, to simplify the installation and control of motorized blinds. The engines will become available in early 2022 through Coulisse Authorized Retailers and are currently available for pre-order in select countries, including the United States.

Eve Systems promises that installation is easier than ever. All users have to do is scan the HomeKit configuration code with their iOS device. You don't need a bridge to set up this device, and the new Eve MotionBlinds engines support both Bluetooth and Thread. If you have a frontier router, such as a HomePod Mini or the new Apple TV 4K, Eve MotionBlinds will automatically join the Thread network.

Blinds can be programmed to open and close at certain hours, but can also be set to run on autopilot via the Eve app. You can configure HomeKit scenes and rules, and connect blinds to other HomeKit-enabled devices, such as light bulbs, thermostats, motion detectors, and more. All Eve MotionBlinds data and information is stored locally on the device, rather than in the cloud, for increased user privacy. Even if a device is within range of a border router, it can still be accessed via a relay.

One of the advantages of using Thread is that it not only simplifies installation, but helps future-resistant devices prepare for Matter, the new smart home protocol being developed between Amazon, Apple, Google and other manufacturers. It offers longer average battery life, faster response times and more. Finally, it solves many of the problems of the modern smart home.

Smart blinds help reduce energy costs, maintain privacy and even add home security benefits. They are also one of the most tangible examples of smart technology available today. If you're interested, you can sign up to receive an email when MotionBlinds becomes available for purchase. At the moment, the prices have not been revealed yet, but don't be surprised if it turns out to be a serious investment.
