Experiences with motion sensors for households with small pets?

Cupertino, November 5, 2019

Hello friends.

I am looking for some recommendations or personal experiences for motion sensors that can be used indoors in a house that has small pets (cats / dogs / birds / etc). My goal is to use the motion sensors to trigger actions in specific locations when movement from a large body is detected (adult) but not trigger the action when a small body is detected.

I tried Phillips Hue motion sensor a couple of places and was not able to get the sensitivity tuned fine enough so it ignored the cats going down the basement but triggered the lights when one of the adults went downstairs. Has anyone gained any experience with other brands? Koogeek? Fibaro? Eve Motion?

I use HomeKit for my founding automation (AppleTV as a hub), with a Phillips Hue bridge and Homebridge (on Ubuntu) pulling the few non-native devices (three Ikea lights, three Osram connectors, Chromecast Audio).
