Facebook announced that it would remove the gray check badges from Pages on Oct. 30, calling the check marks "more confusing than useful".

Gray verification badges were introduced to the platform in 2015 after the exclusive deployment of blue badges for Pages or profiles representing public figures, media organizations and global brands. While blue badges were, and still are, unable to ask, page owners could easily request a gray badge via the Facebook Settings page.

The owners of pages will see appear on their Facebook page a red banner warning them that gray badges would be removed at the end of the month, the social media giant claiming that they were working on better ways to show that the pages are authentic . A "Learn More" link brings publishers to their Support inbox that displays the message below:

We are still working on better ways to help people better understand the pages with which they interact. We introduced gray verification badges in 2015 to indicate which pages for companies and organizations are genuine. However, we have found that they can be more confusing than helpful, so we delete them on October 30th.
