Foxconn to quarantine iPhone workers to prevent coronavirus spreading

Cupertino, February 5, 2020

IPhone maker Foxconn has said it will quarantine iPhone workers when they return on February 10, in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus in its workforce.

Foxconn, among other key production partners, was forced to close its factories, following the advice of health professionals, until next week, when the deadly outbreak encompassed China and the rest of the globe.

It has been reported that the outbreak has a "small impact" on iPhone production, amid rumors that Apple will unveil a new "new 9" iPhone at low costs next month., although a prolonged closure of factories could lead to "big" problems, he said Reuters.

Bloomberg Foxconn reports will separate workers returning from Henan Province, the location of its main factory in Zhengzhou, to return to work for 14 days. The personnel residing in the province itself will be isolated for 7 days.

As a large number of Foxconn employees live on-site, the quarantine plan seems easy to implement for the company.

Apple's most important production partner is still planning to officially resume business on February 10 after an extended New Year's Eve break in the outbreak. But Hai Hai said in a statement Wednesday that workers returning from outside Henan Province, the location of its main factory in Zhengzhou, will be detained for 14 days. Any personnel who report to the work place that lives in the province itself will be isolated for 7 days, the company added.
