Geofence Ecobee turns on the heat!

Cupertino, May 18, 2021

I have had an Ecobee 3 for several years, working with Homekit automation. Recently, I've noticed bad behavior that I don't think happens before. As summer approaches, I periodically start changing the Ecobee settings from "Heat" to "System Off". However, now that the last person leaves home and triggers my "Leave Home" automation, they set Ecobee to the "Away" setting, which turns on the heat again, albeit at a low temperature of 59 ° F. Then, when someone returns home, the system returns to the normal heating schedule. But I would like to leave the heat off for the summer. I don't remember what happened the previous summers. It drives me a little crazy. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there an elegant solution?
