Here's all of the routers that Linksys will be bringing to HomeKit

Cupertino, January 31, 2020

Support for the HomeKit router is certain that it could make its official appearance as soon as Linksys after being first announced at WWDC last year. Just days after eero routers started appearing in the Home app, Linksys updated their product pages to show which of their routers will get the love for HomeKit.

Previously, the only mention of the links in Apple's HomeKit accessory list was pretty generic Linkys Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System, Tri-Band, which included a link to the AC6600. On the Linksys site, the HomeKit badge with "soon" is now on the lists for all AC6600 models covering the available packages in which it comes:

  • Linkys Velop Intelligent WiFi Mesh, Tri-Band (AC2200 / WHW0301)
  • Linkys Velop Intelligent Mesh WiFi System, Tri-Band (AC4400 / WHW0302) 2-Pack
  • Linkys Velop Intelligent Mesh WiFi System, Tri-Band (AC6600 / WHW0303) 3-Pack

Each model offered by Linksys will contain both black and white variants and due to the flexible character of the mesh routers, single, double and triple packages can be purchased, keeping the costs according to the coverage needs. Once HomeKit router support is available, new control options will be found in the Home application that can prevent your accessories from accessing the internet and each other for added privacy and security.

Our favorite VPN service is now more accessible than ever

The home application controls will include the following in the home settings panel:

  • Without restrictions: The router allows the accessory to connect to any internet service or local device. This offers the lowest level of security.
  • Automatic: The router allows the accessory to connect to an automatically updated list of internet services and local devices approved by the manufacturer.
  • Collapse at home: The router allows the accessory to only connect to the home hub. This option can prevent firmware updates or other services.

All 3 model packages listed are currently available for purchase, although the exact release date for HomeKit router support has not yet been announced by Apple. As with everyone at HomeKit, even though support has been announced, it is not guaranteed that the feature will be added, though it seems likely.
