I've been using Homekit for several years with no issues. Have a first gen HomePod that serves as the base station.
Over the last several months, for some reason when I'm out of the house and off wifi, I can't access any of my HomeKit accessories. When I open the Home app everything says "not responding". I can have my iPad on Wifi and iPhone on LTE - the iPad will work, but the iPhone won't. And the weird this is it's random, doesn't work 90% of the time off Wifi, but works 10%.
No weird firewall issues - I have a normal Google Wifi setup. Resets and iOS updates didn't help. Any suggestions?
