HomeKit & Apple KeyChain

Cupertino, April 25, 2020

Looking for strategies to use HoneKit without storing anything beyond the few database bits that HomeKit needs from Keychain.

Respectfully ask for discussions to avoid topics around the merit and benefits of encryption - as encryption is not German with the subject.

In our case, 90% of the data held in the Keychain (both Mac and iOS) have no activity stored online. We don't sync passwords - we only need local storage.

Third-party password manager
We'd like to drop the key to use HomeKit. It seems unfair. Does anyone know what data stored by HomeKit are your keys / keys appear empty? Chips, wax etc?

Second Apple ID
We currently have a second Apple ID set up just to use the HoneKit at home. The pain to maintain, as well as the obvious disadvantages include not having access to HomeKit on major devices, and not using HomeKit when you are away from home.

Two-way authentication 2FA
You can disable Keychain data storage in the cloud - UNLESS 2FA is enabled. If 2FA you are required to store all your key data in iCloud.

The irony is with the whole Apple profile of high security, we are practically obliged to store passwords online.

Does anyone have other ideas and strategies that allow one to use Keychain as the primary password manager and use HomeKit without storing all passwords online?
