Homekit as a gateway for android users?

Cupertino, July 13, 2019

I think letting HomeKit work with Android phones (at a lesser level at least) would be a great help in adopting and also incentive companies to make products for HomeKit. A big problem with young people is what has roommates etc. And much of the time everyone does not have an apple phone. This reduces the incentive for people to buy HomeKit instead of something that will work on everyone's phone. (yes usually units have their own 1st party app that makes it possible to control it, but it doesn't have the same ease of use). Allowing android users to join a HomeKit home will showcase some of the major aspects of apple products (they just work) and also allow people who already have apple devices to buy HomeKit products and don't have to deal with with their roommates, girlfriends or other family members to complain because you buy something that works with HomeKit, not Alexia etc.
