HomeKit devices sometimes do not respond

I only have three HomeKit devices connected. A Sylvania light bulb upstairs, a Roku in the same room and an LGTV in the downstairs living room. The wifi is the same and covers the whole house, but almost every time I try to use it, the HomeKit application will display at least one of the devices as unresponsive or with a “!” sign, or it will look LGTV like it’s on when it’s not … Long story short, I’ve read a lot of people saying how great it is, but I don’t seem to trust it at all, I don’t have an AppleTV or a HomePod to function as a hub and I thought that might be the problem. Then I read that an old iPad could work just as well and set it up as a hub, but almost nothing has changed. Do you have any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong?
