Earlier this month, I reported that the Eve Water Guard will start shipping in early February. The device was first announced in September last year. One of the key features of the Eve Water Guard is its HomeKit support.
If it detects water, the Eve Water Guard will alert you with an audible alarm (100-dB) and a visible alarm (red warning light). You also get an alert on your iPhone or Apple Watch. One of the features that sets this product apart from other HomeKit-enabled water sensors is that it has a full 6.5 ft. Sensor cable that can be easily extended. Including this cable means that you can wrap it under all kitchen appliances such as a dishwasher or refrigerator. Note that you will need to be plugged into an outlet. If you are looking for a battery-powered model, check the Fibaro water drain and temperature sensor.
I personally had the fridge leak a few years ago (overnight, not less) and, if I had this product, I would have been able to prevent damage to my hardwood floors. Last year, my kitchen sink also had a slow leak under it. If I hadn't had more floppies under the sink by mistake, I would have had a major repair on my hand. I plan to pick up some of these products to place next to my washing machine and sink.
With the included HomeKit support, you can create and run automations that can further protect your home. If you plug the washing machine into the HomeKit enabled socket, you can create a trigger to automatically turn off the power if the Eve Water Guard detects water.
Eve Water Guard can be purchased from Amazon. I'll have a more in-depth review in the coming weeks after I install it and spend time using it.
If you're a fan of Apple's HomeKit, make sure you read my weekly HomeKit column that will be published Friday afternoon.
