HomeKit solution for existing wall switches

Cupertino, October 4, 2021

May be a mental block, but I can't think how to go about making existing light fittings and wall switches (all currently non-HomeKit) HomeKit compatible.

Specifically, I have 4 independent GU10 lamp circuits in a room, each with their own wall switch. I want to have HomeKit remote control over these circuits, obviously changing wall switches/lamps as necessary. I want to be able to retain non-HomeKit control of these circuits so my wife/kids don't need a smartphone just to switch lights on and off — in other words, they would use the wall switches to operate the lights as usual.

As I understand it, fitting even a boring mechanical non-dimming manual up/down switch for each circuit won't do the job because the light circuits need continuous power to respond to HomeKit. So e.g. the kid would leave the room and mechanically switch off the lights, and I'd have to remember to turn it on manually so that I could use my HomeKit app on my iPhone.

Anyone got any solutions to this?
