HomeKit Starts Help for family and "old" people

Cupertino, October 10, 2019

So I live with my parents in an apartment. I purchased few Philips Hue lamps and Bridge, few Osram lamps and switches, and configured my Homebridge for non-homefit devices with Raspberry Pi. I got Alexa and Google Home in my rooms where smart stuff is installed. Half of the mobile homes for home are on iOS. The other is on Android.

The problem is, my built-in wall switches are not fancy, and my parents, because they are used to, always switch the switches on and off. Well, and it takes time to ask Alexa to turn on the light, at least 5 seconds after they enter the room.

What I am looking for is an approach to how to make it easier for them to turn on the light.

I thought of 2 types of solutions: - replace wall switches with smart one, so at least the lamps wouldn't be offline if switched by this - install sensors to turn lights on automatically, but I don't know exactly how to set them up, so that they do not turn on the day or when they leave space and do not enter

Maybe you guys have better solutions or can recommend any type of accessory (HomeKit support would be nice).

Small update:
Maybe I should have mentioned that I live in Germany, so some of the products will not be available here.
